This winter social group game is versatile and fun for everyone involved! The questions are based on a topic everyone of every skill level can relate to – the 5 senses! Your students will love talking about their favorite winter things! Students will answer opinion questions about their favorite sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and textures related to the winter season and the holidays!

This SEL activity was designed to get your students talking and increase student engagement. Each question is a SURPRISE and the variety of questions is endless!

I am able to adapt this conversation starters SEL game to target a variety of goals based on my students’ different speech and language goals. I have used it to target:

– Conversation Skills

– Inferencing & Perspective Taking – students can guess which choice their classmate will choose based on what they know about them. They can also practice answering why they believe their classmate made a specific choice.

– Choice Making

– Sentence Building/ Sentence Expansion

– Expressing Opinions

– Reasoning

– Conjunctions

– Asking Questions

– Answering Questions

– Agree and Disagree Respectfully

– Articulation – this mixed group game naturally elicits multiple trials with the following sounds/words/phrases (If you could only choose one, I would choose, because, see, smell, hear, listen, taste, feel, touch, etc.).

Vocabulary / Concepts related to the Winter or Five Senses

How do you play?

* Choose one of the 5 senses to focus on for each round and use the corresponding board and picture cards. Picture cards should be cut out and placed in a basket or some kind of container. Students will then choose two picture cards from the container (without peaking!) and place them on the designated boxes on the board to generate the If You Could Only Choose One question.

* Cards can be returned to the container when finished to allow for additional question combinations.

What does each product come with?

* Fun engaging questions that everyone can relate to! All five senses are covered in each product (see, smell, hear, taste, touch). Each of the five senses comes with a designated board and picture cards. There is also a blank board and blank cards if you’d like to create/write your own.

* Each board comes with a sentence starter to assist students in sentence building / sentence expansion. There is also room to generate your own sentence from scratch on each board.

* In addition to sentence writing space on each of the five senses boards, if you have students at different writing levels, the product also comes with 3 different levels of writing prompts, plus a blank template for independent writing.

Thank you for your interest! Enjoy!
