Atoms and Molecules will be a hit with your students!

This resource consists of 8 printable Student Worksheets, 8 Answer Sheets and 3 information handouts that will not just save you lots of preparation time but will also provide a fun way for your students to learn about the differences between atoms and molecules, and how to draw molecules based on accurate reading of chemical formulas. Suitable for students in years 8 – 10Atoms and Molecules can be used as classwork, homework, revision and even tests.

Atoms and Molecules covers:

  • atoms as the ‘building blocks’ of matter
  • differences between an ‘atom’ and a ‘molecule’
  • chemical formulas of molecules
  • drawing molecules
  • atomic structure
  • subatomic particles: protons, electrons and neutrons
  • atomic number and mass number
  • drawing atoms
  • use simple PowerPoint tools such as creating/inserting and formatting shapes (digital version)

Skills:

  • reading and interpreting chemical formulas
  • drawing representations of atoms
  • drawing molecules
  • carrying out Internet research

Atoms and Molecules includes an optional challenge, where students learn about the three different types of sugars (monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides) and conduct Internet research to find the chemical formulas of a variety of sugars (glucose, fructose, sucrose) and what happens in a condensation reaction. They are also required to draw a ‘ball-and-stick’ model of a glucose molecule.

Atoms and Molecules includes an Answer Key (PDF) with images in full color that look great on the big screen and can be used to facilitate good class discussion. Answers provided are also highly detailed, so there is no need to research or fact-check here; it’s all been done for you!

I hope you and your students find this product useful and that you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
