Practice non-standard measurement with this math and fine motor center.
Students use linking cubes, unifix cubes or snap cubes to measure
Australian animals.

 

There are ten different Australian animals to measure, including:

 

Echidna

Platypus

Emu

Emu egg

Kangaroo

Dingo

Wallaby

Wombat

Koala

Cassowary

 

Also included is a page with the real life measurements of these animals
and a recording page for students to write the number of cubes they
used to measure each animal.

 

The cubes used in this project were approximately .75 inch. Both popular brands seem to be this size.

 

I laminate these sheets or put them in plastic sleeves. At the center I
place a container of the cubes for students to take out and snap
together to make as tall or long as the animal. Students can then count
the cubes and use the recording sheet to mark how many cubes long or
tall the animal is.
