Item description

Celebrate Black History Month by reading about these often overlooked influential African American figures. These reading passages in Spanish celebrate how the African American heritage of these innovators, artists, entrepreneurs, and activists shaped their journeys and ultimate success in their fields.

Students will read in Spanish about 12 different African Americans with this no-prep activity. You can either use the pdf for a print & go or you can use the enclosed link to assign the Google Slides in Google Classroom. These can be used any time of the year, but are also a great activity to honor Black History Month which occurs every February in the United States. Furthermore, it’s an engaging way to practice informative (non-fiction) reading.

What’s included?

  • 12 reading passages in Spanish about: George Washington Carver, Sammy Davis Jr., Wilma Rudolph, Barack Obama, Frederick Douglass, Madam C.J. Walker, Harriet Tubman, Muhammad Ali, Ray Charles, Thurgood Marshall, Oprah Winfrey, and Ida B. Wells
  • 5 questions per passage (4 multiple choice, one written response)
  • Answer Key
  • Google Slides reading passages (uneditable)
  • Google Slides questions about the reading with text boxes for students to type their answer
