Item description

As an ESL teacher, I have learned that it is vital that children learn the skill of blending as you go as they approach reading.

When we teach children to sound out each individual letter and then guess the word, it rarely comes together. Try saying each sound in the word “cat.”

What on earth is a “c” “a” “t”? Even if you say it quickly, children still struggle to recognize it as a word. Teach kids to blend as they go and when they blend “ca” first and then blend in “t” they recognize the word instantly.

The following are successive blending ladders with practice sentences. We begin with two sight words from Fry’s 1st 100 Sight Words list and add more as we gain vocabulary. (10 in total) *see cards

Begin with the ladder. After your student has mastered the ladder, move to the sentences card. Do not move on to ladder 2 until your student has mastered the ladder 1 sentences and sight words. (sight word cards included)

HINT: If your student is distracted by that third letter, try holding a strip of paper over it until they have blended the first two letters successfully.
