• Theme #3 Thematic Statements – Students choose the thematic statement that they believe fits the story the best and include evidence from the text to support their choice.

• Sequencing – Students will write a sentence and draw a picture to show the correct order of events in the story.

• Wait… There’s More! – Students will create 2 more pages for the end of the book that includes a few sentences and colorful illustrations similar to those used in the story.
• A Bone-a-fide Book Review – Students rate how much they enjoyed the book, draw a new cover, and explain why kids should or should not read it.
• Vocabulary Matching Cards – This activity can be used during stations or posted on a word wall to reinforce vocabulary words from the story. COLOR and B&W versions are included.
• Sayings and Phrases Matching Cards – This activity can be used during stations or posted on a word wall to reinforce the sayings and phrases from the story. COLOR and B&W versions are included.
• Silly Sayings – Students will write the meaning of the underlined sayings and draw a picture to represent each of them. (ANSWER KEY included)
• Vocabulary Crossword Puzzle – Students will complete a crossword puzzle by matching words from the story to their definitions. (ANSWER KEY included)
• Vocabulary Word Search Puzzle – Students find the hidden vocabulary words in the puzzle. (ANSWER KEY included)

The included activities were designed to encourage students to use higher-level thinking skills, require students to provide text evidence to support their thinking, and challenge them to provide their own opinions and/or perspectives.
