Chemistry slime lab experiments are always a hit with students. Students will consider properties of matter as they explore physical and chemical changes along with chemical reactions. CER setup allows for self-discovery and inquiry as the complete the experiment, do not show the title to let your students discover through claim evidence reasoning approach to chemical reactions they are creating slime. Lesson includes presentation with experiment instructions, required resources and extension questions. Student note pages are scaffolded for CER process.

Objective: Students will practice the CER method of engaging in science by mixing solutions together to make a (chemical) product. Students will use evidence gathered in the experiment to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred. Demonstration of Claim, Evidence and Reasoning process is expected. 

Science Standards – TEKS: 6.5(C) identify the formation of a new substance by using the evidence of a possible chemical change such as production of a gas, change in temperature, production of a precipitate, or color change; 7.6(A) distinguish between physical and chemical changes in matter; 8.5(E) investigate how evidence of chemical reactions indicates that new substances with different properties are formed and how that relates to the law of conservation of mass

NGSS – MS-PS1-2. Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after the substances interact to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.

Lesson includes teacher presentation slides and student pages.  The student pages are scaffolded for the CER process.
