The Story

Christmas is here and it is the season of giving and this year the class is doing a Secret Santa. The problem is that you want to know who the Secret Santa is. The students follow the clues to solve the mystery and uncover the person who has left the special present for Christmas. Who is Secret Santa?

This Christmas math detective case includes

• Mapping using coordinates
• Addition to 100
• 2 digit addition with regrouping
• 3 digit addition with regrouping
• Subtraction from 100

These math mysteries are designed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students. Could also be used with struggling 5th grade students that need a little extra work and reinforcement in adding and takeaways (or advanced, gifted and talented 2nd grade). I also leave some of the mysteries for my sub teacher and use the as a math review.

Math Mysteries are an independent escape room (or crack the code) type of activity where instead of using locks, students identify suspects with puzzles and word problems.
