  • Examples of sentence starters and transition words to help students write strong evidence and reasoning sentences.

CER Review & Guided Practice Page

  • Practice the steps of claim, evidence, and reasoning by reading about a character’s situation.
  • Determine what question needs to be answered, identify relevant evidence that answers the question, develop a claim, and write a reasoning sentence.

10 CER Worksheet Pages

  • Students help the fictitious “Dr. Wise,” a researcher at the C.E.R. Institute. Companies and organizations look to C.E.R. and Dr. Wise for advice with their business decisions.
  • Each activity page has 6 pieces of evidence related to a question from a client seeking the services of Dr. Wise.
  • Students determine which 3 pieces of evidence are relevant and help answer the question. Then, they use that evidence to write a CER paragraph to Dr. Wise that supports their claim.
