Item description

Students learn how to:

  • add and edit backdrops,
  • use the stage script editor,
  • use broadcasting commands to create an animated story.

This editable PowerPoint includes short embedded videos that demonstrate what the student program should be doing at certain points, and it ends with directions for a culminating activity for students to demonstrate their learning. There is also a rubric for the activity. This lesson is longer than my other lessons. We usually spend two class periods on it. Screenshots are from Scratch 3.0.

Coding across the curriculum? This would be a great computer lesson to incorporate into almost any class. Once students are able to code a scene, they can write programs to share information on any topic they learned in a class such as science, history, English, etc. (Examples: Animate a scene from the novel you are studying; Code a tour guide sharing information about an important place in history; Code a dialogue where one character teaches another an important concept such as mitosis)
