Item description

Assess, record and communicate acquisition of consonant blends to parents. Efficiently assess and record the blends sp, br, sw, cr, sm, dr, sk, bl, fl, pr, tr, cl, fr, st, sc, sl, pl, sn, gl and gr both in reading and writing. This assessment of blends are solely the 2 consonants together, not attached to a word.

Communicate student knowledge of blends with the parents with the home letter and practice ideas and words. Serves as a home intervention.

For Teachers:

•Blends reading assessment

•Blends reading and writing assessment

•Blends written oral guide

For Parents:

•Letter to parents informing them on what blends to review.

•Blend fluency lists to send home for extra practice.

Suggested Use:

  1. Choose an assessment to give (reading or reading & writing).
  2. Highlight or circle the blends they do not read correctly. If they read it incorrectly, I like to write the sounds they read on the top of the blend to keep track.
  3. To assess writing, give the student their copy of the assessment, fold it in half so that they can not see the top portion. Read the blends from the teacher guide for written assessment.
  4. Grade the assessments.
  5. For students that score low, under 15 on 20, I send home the parent letter and highlight the sounds they did not read correctly. Staple the blend word lists to the letter and send home.
