Crazy Inventions Project (High and Low Tech)

Crazy Inventions Project

A well scaffolded project where students will create and
present an idea for a crazy invention. It’s a 4 to 5 hour project which you
could split over different classes or complete in one project day. The project
starts by playing a video of some of history’s most crazy projects. This helps
to give students an introduction into the world of crazy inventions. Students
will then start to plan out ideas for their own inventions. Once an idea is
chosen, they will draw up some quick ideas for what it will look like. The
final design can be created either digitally using Tinkercad or by a final more
detailed drawing. The project then moves onto the business side with
introduction tasks about advertising and target customers. Students will then
plan a short presentation to introduce their crazy product to the class.
Finally, students will offer each other feedback and select which products best
suit a few categories.

High tech version.

The lesson includes a PPT and all handouts needed for the
project (full list of materials below). If students have access to devices,
then there are several tasks where they can use them whilst also being able to
produce a free 3D design of their product on Tinkercad.

Low tech version

If students do not have access to tech devices, the majority
of the project can still be done and I have provided printable handouts to
complete the tasks. The only task they will not be able to complete without
devices is where they are given a short time to research some crazy devices
online. Skipping this does not affect the outcome of the project.
