Item description

Epigenetics revision doesn’t have to be dull! Good Tags, Bad Tags is a board game that your students will find both enjoyable and instructional, helping them to consolidate their understanding of this fascinating (and relatively new) area of study in biology – including the important distinction between epigenetic factors and epigenetic tags. Epigenetics Revision Game is suitable for students in years 10 – 12.

The good news: while the initial set-up of this resource takes a bit of time, once the printing and laminating are done, you can use it year after year, with very little prep!

Epigenetics Revision Game includes:

  1. Game board (to be printed on A3 paper and laminated – one per group)

  2. Thirty Question Cards and twenty Tag Cards (to be printed and laminated – one set per group).

  3. Game instructions.

  4. Card Keeper Board (to place cards on).

You will need to provide:

  1. Plastic counters/game pieces (one per student).

  2. Dice (one die per group of students).

Epigenetics Revision Game covers the following:

  • What is ‘Epigenetics’?

  • Nature of the epigenome.

  • Epigenetic factors (external factors – such as stress, diet and smoking – that affect gene expression).

  • Epigenetic tags, such as histone acetylation and DNA methylation.

  • Effects of epigenetic factors on DNA packaging and labeling.

  • Epigenetic inheritance.

  • Cell differentiation.

  • Imprinted genes.

Epigenetics Revision Game (Good Tags, Bad Tags) is best used as a board game for small groups of 2 – 4 students, but to keep things simple, Question Cards could be used for classroom quizzes, short homework tasks or test questions, while the Tag Cards can be used to assign short research tasks to individual students, who would then report their findings.

I hope you and your students find this product useful and that you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Praise for Ariana’s Active Science & Biology worksheets:

“I used about 95% of the worksheets with my kids this year and it was a gem during remote learning. Honestly the best resource I’ve ever purchased” – Emma Palmer (via Facebook)
