To understand the scientific method, students need to understand the vocabulary used in relationship to this scientific process. Students fluent in English have difficulty with many of the terms used in science. It can be even more difficult for ESL students to learn these science terms. Teaching ESL students can be challenging, especially when different levels of proficiency are in the same class. It has even more challenges when you are teaching science, a language of its own! This lesson will help you help them!

When introducing the terms use the set of cards with translations first, once students can match all cards successfully, then use the set of cards without translations. (This second set of cards also works well with SPED students, the words to focus on are underlined).


Print the cards on cardstock, cut and place in bags for student use.
