Do you want your students to develop comprehension skills as they learn to read? This set of first grade reading worksheets is just what you need! They are designed to support early readers and build their understanding of text.
short decodable passages with common first grade sight words
large, easy-to-read font
three text-based comprehension questions per story
built-in fluency practice
Each decodable story has two multiple choice and one short response. The multiple choice comprehension questions have two possible answer choices with large “bubble” circles for students to color to indicate their answer. Great practice for future standardized testing.
These worksheets encourage repeated reading which helps build fluency. Students are prompted to read the passage three times, coloring a smiley face each time, before answering the questions.
These reading passages can be used for homework, assessment, or guided practice during your reading groups. They are also great for remediation and intervention with lower-level second graders.
15 reading passages with comprehension questions (in 2 versions)
56 sight word cards
Digital version of all passages
Each passage is provided in two versions:
Version A – Includes space for parent initials to use as homework
Version B – Includes space for a score/grade to use as classwork or assessment
There is also a set of word cards containing sight words found in the stories. These cards can used as flashcards to help students build automaticity. I suggest pre-teaching (or reviewing) these words before having students complete the reading comprehension worksheet.
