Item description

This resource begins with a printable handout (for teacher/student reference) which contains clear, easy-to-understand background information on the different types of fossils and the process of fossilization. This is followed by three handy black-and-white Student Worksheets, three Answer Sheets as well as a differentiated (cut-and-paste/drag-and-drop) version of one of the worksheets. Suitable for students in years 8 – 10, Fossils and Fossilization can be used as class work, homework or as a revision exercise. It includes a revision crossword puzzle.

Content covered:

  • definition of a ‘fossil’

  • types of fossils: trace fossils, impression fossils and biosignatures

  • difference between a ‘mould‘ and a ‘cast

  • the process of fossilization

  • conditions in which fossilization is most likely to occur.

Along with printable worksheets, a digital (PowerPoint) version is included here at no extra cost, giving teachers a choice as to which they prefer to use – taking into account the different learning styles of their students.

Fossils and Fossilization includes Answer Sheets with images in full color that look great on the big screen and can be used to facilitate good class discussion. Answers provided are highly detailed, so there is no need to research or fact-check here; it’s all been done for you.

I hope you and your students find this product useful and that you enjoy using it as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Praise for Ariana’s Active Science & Biology worksheets:

“I used about 95% of the worksheets with my kids this year and it was a gem during remote learning. Honestly the best resource I’ve ever purchased” – Emma Palmer (via Facebook)
