The geometric solids are another of Montessori’s well-known didactic materials to help children experience 3-dimensional geometry. They are used:

  • To refine the stereognostic sense.
  • To bring awareness of three-dimensional/solid shapes to objects in the environment.
  • To move from sensorial to abstract geometry.
  • To review the names of the solids and their properties.
  • To prepare for the derivation of the formula(s) for volume.
