Item description

This collection is an asset to Geography, History, Ancient History and Cultural Studies.

Wat Rong Khun also known as the White Temple, is a contemporary,
unconventional, exquisite work of art in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand.
It is privately owned by the famous artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, who
designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997.

By the end of the 20th century, the original Wat Rong Khun was in bad
disrepair. Funds were not available for renovation. Chalermchai
Kositpipat, a local artist decided to completely rebuild the temple and
fund the project with his own money. Accepting no donations, Chalermchai
spent his own money on the project because he did not want outside
influences to dictate his vision.
