Item description

These health and nutrition activities will help your upper elementary students discover more about the various vitamins and minerals the body needs to stay healthy!

This resource includes three health and nutrition activities:

  • Create an Advertisement for a Mineral

  • Vitamin Reading & Jigsaw Project

  • “I Have, Who Has” Vitamins and Minerals Edition

In the Create an Advertisement for a Mineral Project, students will learn what advertisements are (commercials and display ads) and the purpose that they serve. They will conduct research to learn about what minerals are and how they help our bodies, then create an advertisement for a mineral of their choice (identifying whether it is major or trace, foods it is found in, and how the chosen mineral helps our bodies). This resource is low prep – the only prep you will have to do is find a commercial and display ad to show to the class.

The Vitamin Reading and Jigsaw Assignment invites students to learn about different vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K) and teach what they’ve learned to the rest of the class. Over the course of a few days, students will be assigned a group and a specific vitamin to research, create an infographic with important information for that vitamin, and then teach the class what they have learned. This resource is no prep – print and go!

Students will have so much fun with this “I Have, Who Has” Vitamins and Minerals the Body Needs edition to review content that they won’t even realize they’re learning! This activity includes 20 cards – you can give one card to a pair of students, or some students can have a card of their own. One student will start off the game by reading “I have _____, who has (description of vitamin or mineral)”. When the next student or pair sees that the person is describing the vitamin or mineral they have on their card, they will read, “I have ____, who has (description of vitamin or mineral)” and the game will continue until all students have read their card. These cards are not currently editable, but something I am considering making editable in the future.
