January Close Reading Comprehension Passages | 5th Grade & 6th Grade

Item description

A book with ten close reading passages focused on key events in January or famous figures that were either born or died in the month. Each activity has an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, crossword puzzle and wordsearch activity. The NO PREP reading comprehension activities are perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. Students will learn about world history whilst developing their comprehension skills.

• The Gold Rush that started in California on the 24th January 1848, as people came from all around the world in search of wealth.
• The famous American abstract artist, Jackson Pollock, who was born on the 28th January 1912.
• The Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet, which was first performed on the 29th January 1595
• The famous baseball player, Jackie Robinson, who was born on the 31st January 1919.

Time allowance for each activity:

5 minutes – read through the text individually.

40 minutes – answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

15 minutes – Teacher and students go through the text and answers.
