This June themed writing prompts resource includes 15 themed prompts to get students thinking and writing about their knowledge of and experiences with topics related to the calendar month of June. There are 5 writing prompts for each of the following categories: opinion writing, informative/explanatory writing, and narrative writing.

We have also included mini versions of each writing prompt that can easily be pasted into an interactive notebook or writing journal and completed therein. Additionally, there is a cover page that can be colored by the students and stapled to their completed writing prompts.

Opinion Writing Prompts

  • The bicycle was patented on June 26, 1819. Do you think bikes are an important means of transportation in the world?
  • The second week in June is National Little League Baseball Week. Do you think it is important for young children to play team sports?
  • U.F.O. Day (Unidentified Flying Object) is in June. Do you think there are other forms of life in the universe? What do you imagine?
  • June 29th is Camera Day. Do you think cameras on phones have changed our culture? How?
  • June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month. What do you think about keeping wild animals in captivity?

Informative/Explanatory Writing Prompts

  • Write to the student that will sit in your seat next year. Explain what you learned about being successful in your class.
  • What are your plans for the summer months when you’re out of school?
  • June 15 is National Smile Power Day. How can smiles change a person’s behavior or attitude? Are all smiles good? Explain.
  • June 17th is National Eat Your Vegetables Day. How do you teach yourself to eat vegetables that you don’t like?
  • Best Friends Day is in June. Write to explain what you like about your best friend(s) and what you do together.

Narrative Writing Prompts

  • Many people own pets. Write to tell of summer adventures with your pet.
  • How did this school year go for you? Write to tell about the highlights.
  • Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June. Write to tell how your father, stepfather, or grandfather makes your life better.
  • Do you sleep away from home in the summer? Write to tell about one of those times.
  • Do you visit your grandparents in the summer? Write to tell what you do together when you visit.
