Story

The groundhog has gone missing! Teachers have looked high and low for it, but it can not be found anywhere. All the teachers could find were 5 clues as to who has taken the groundhog.

The teachers have been unable to solve the clues and have now asked you and your class to help them, solve the clues and save groundhog day.

It is up to you to solve the case and find out who has taken the groundhog. Solve the clues to narrow down your suspects and discover who.

This detective case includes:

  • Subtraction from 100 of 2 digit numbers

  • Multi digit addition
  • Word problems with addition and subtraction

These math mysteries are designed for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students. Could also be used with struggling 5th grade students that need a little extra work and reinforcement in adding and takeaways (or advanced, gifted and talented 2nd grade). I also leave some of the mysteries for my sub teacher and use the as a math review.

Math Mysteries are an independent escape room or crack the code type of fun math activity where instead of using locks, students identify suspects with puzzles and word problems. This mystery is perfect for the start of year with back to school activities.
