This activity resource helps students develop their understanding of degrees of a pentatonic scale and simple composition. It is suitable for a range of primary music class levels, and can even be used as an introduction activity game.

I have included a few ‘games’ which students can play as a roll the dice game:

1. Students roll the die, and colour in the respective note that links to the number on page two.

2. Students roll the die, and colour in the degree of the pentatonic scale in a random melody.

3. Students roll the die, and create a melody using the pentatonic scale– they will get a unique one each time! As an extension, students can learn their melody on an instrument.
