Item description

Escape rooms are a super fun and engaging way for students to practice academic skills! This is a low-prep Christmas-themed escape designed for fourth grade (would be very challenging for most 3rd graders). Students musts help Santa save Christmas and escape from the North Pole, so he can finally get to his vacation in sunny Florida.

Start by reading an entertaining storyline that explains how everything has gone wrong at the North Pole. It is your students’ mission to help Santa find the tools he needs to fix all the problems. Unfortunately, they are all locked up and Santa has forgotten the codes. The only way to save Christmas is by solving puzzles that will unlock each tool.

Each puzzle has its own task. These include:

  • Solving one- and two-step word problems using all four operations

  • Reading informational text and answering text-based questions (2 tasks)

  • Adding money (with decimals, requires regrouping)

  • Understanding figurative language

There are 5 cabinets to unlock. Completing a task correctly will reveal the code to unlock the door. Students enter the code on a special webpage. If the code is correct, they advance to the next room. If not, try again!

Everything is included to set up your escape room:

  • Cabinet doors for your task envelopes

  • Puzzle sheets for each room

  • Recording sheets

  • Answer keys

  • Teacher directions

  • Student directions

If you prefer not to use the webpage option or don’t have devices for your students, alternate directions are included.

This activity is very easy to implement. There aren’t a bunch of pieces to put together and organize. It allows you to give your students academic tasks wrapped together in a fun, themed activity without a lot of teacher prep.
