A great way to introduce and practice inferring with your students is by using pictures.

With this no prep, copy-and-go set, students will infer using a different picture every week.

  • For each photo, students will first observe and note their observations (what they see or notice in each picture).
  • Students will then infer using the “5 Ws” – who is in the picture, what is happening, when it is taking place, where it is happening, and why the event is happening. For each inference, students must add justification from the picture.

This set is meant to be copied into a journal. It can be used in small group instruction, work stations, or whole group.

This set includes 20 photos and accompanying note pages, as well as a rubric for student self-assessment.
