More Info:

The 20 vocabulary words in the word searches and the crossword puzzle deal with the lives of Presidents Washington and Lincoln.  The word searches are differentiated with 3 levels of difficulty, according to the direction the words go in the puzzles, to meet the needs of all your students, including your English Language Learners.  The crossword puzzle also has a word bank to go with it, if you have any students who need more support to do it.  There are answer keys for all the puzzles.

The terms used in the puzzles are: Assassinated, Birthday, Cherry Tree, Emancipation, February, General, Gettysburg, Independence, Kentucky, Lawyer, Lincoln, Mary, Martha, Revolution, Slavery, Surveyor, Valley Forge, Virginia, War, Washington.

Both Print and Google Drive™ versions are provided for all the puzzles. The PDF file includes teacher notes, instructions for accessing the online materials, instructions for completing the puzzles as well as all the word searches and the crossword puzzle with their answer keys. The Google Drive™ materials include directions for using the materials, the word search puzzles and the crossword puzzle, and the answer keys for the puzzles.

Here are some suggestions for using this resource:
★ For words that may be new, you can have your students find their definitions and use those words in sentences.
★ Students can also draw pictures that illustrate the words to show their understanding.
★ More proficient students can write paragraphs or stories that include some of the words.
★ Extend your students’ learning by having them record their sentences or stories online, for speaking and technology practice.
★ Have students group the words into 2 categories: 1 about Washington and 1 about Lincoln and then explain why they classified them that way.
