Item description

This grades 3-4 Readers’ Theater fun fractured fable script will give your students high interest practice in reading aloud, understanding humor, and inferencing. If you have a class that dislikes anything they perceive as “babyish”, this amusing script with its relevant modern characters will get a thumbs-up!

This script is a tongue-in-cheek adaptation of Aesop’s famous fable. In this fractured 21st century fable, a bored 10 year old boy, Shep, spends his summer watching sheep to earn money to buy a bike. He tries to break his boredom by playing a prank on his unsuspecting neighbors… The script is intended for 7 readers but the number of readers is flexible. Advice is given as to how the number can be contracted or expanded, depending on how many groups you wish to have. A still emergent reader could play the role of the sheep. It is bags of fun, but has no words. Only baa-ing is required! The only roles that require a lot of speaking are those of the two narrators and Shep Herd.

After completing the script students discuss and write on six questions, complete a dice roll fable writing task, and perform two fun extension activities.

Question sheets are included, as are answers to the activities.

Quick part-reading self assessment forms are provided, and a teacher’s reading rubric for easy marking.
