We all know getting students to write can be a
challenge at times and getting them to write in complete sentences while
also citing text evidence can make you feel like you’re trying to tread water during
a hurricane! These R.A.P. anchor charts make writing short answer responses a
breeze for students. Each step corresponds to a color (Restate:
Pink, Answer: Green, Prove: Purple) so students can reference these anchor
charts and see exactly where they are in the process of composing their
answer.

You can use the color coding system incorporated on
the charts to your advantage. When I am first teaching the R.A.P. method, I have
students use highlighters or colored pens so they can show exactly what
words go with each step in the R.A.P. method. It also makes it easy for my to
quickly glance through what they have written to see if they understand exactly
how to word each step. Then, those who don’t get it can quickly be pulled into
a small group to reteach the area they are struggling with.
