Well structured science article analysis activity will provide both – student exposure to real world science and the scaffolded support they need to write well in science. Students of all levels can be successful at understanding current scientific research and issues by using articles that are geared just for their reading level. Teachers can also give their students choice of article selection and difficulty level. This lesson has teacher tips and a class presentation slide deck to help you teach your students. The student template is a Google document that can be edited to provide the level that is perfect for your students. This can be modified for any middle school level and can go up to MYP year 5 (10th grade). Rubric also included. This lesson focuses on Criterion D – Reflecting on the Impacts of Science. But don’t worry if you are not at an IB school! This is a great way to combine writing skills and science!
