Science Center: Elements of Chemistry Match (Set 1: Atomic Numbers 1-40) is a versatile science resource that works as a matching or memory activity. 

They are well-suited to students beginning their journey into chemistry and will assist them to gain familiarity with key components of the periodic table.

This resource contains:

  • 81 cards (40 matches and one title card)
  • Atomic Numbers 1-40
  • PDF and PNG files

Instructions:

  • Print, laminate and cut the individual cards.
  • Mix the cards. Have students match the chemical element with the correct symbol.
  • Play the memory game. After mixing, place the cards face down and have students turn over two cards. If the student matches the element with the symbol, the student keeps the set before trying to find another match. If no match is found the next student takes a turn. Continue until all cards have been matched. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
  • The cards also include the atomic number and states whether the chemical element is a metal, nonmetal or metalloid. The purpose for this is simply to increase exposure to more associations with the chemical elements.

Cards are versatile and can be divided into as few or as many sets as required.
