Most teenagers will experiment with sexual behavior at some point in their lives while most are already sexually active and/or are curious about it. They may not hear or understand everything they need to know to make wise decisions about sex and prevent themselves from falling victim to peer pressure and risky sexual behaviors. 

Unfortunately, children are engaging in sex much earlier than ever before. Exposing students/teenagers to different situations related to sex and teaching them how to navigate these situations, can ultimately set the stage for a lifetime of healthy sexuality, safe sex, positive relationships, and wise-decision making. It can also prevent damaging, life-changing consequences that can ruin their lives.

It’s normal for teens to have many questions and lots of thoughts and feelings about sex and sexuality. This resource will greatly help them ask meaningful questions and seek answers that address their thoughts and feelings about sex. Discussing these scenarios and using them to brainstorm effective ways to navigate difficult situations related to sex can help your students:

make smart sexual decisions

delay sexual activity until the right time

practice safe sex

reduce their chances of engaging in behaviors that place them at risk

determine whether they are emotionally and physically ready to have sex

set and communicate personal boundaries

recognize and understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors

This resource includes 52 Sex Education Scenario Task Cards with and without questions (in colors Rainbow and B&W). The Task Cards include highly relevant scenarios that students can relate to followed by questions. 

Also included are the same scenarios without questions, so you can generate your OWN questions and activities for the scenarios!

You can use the Task Cards WITHOUT Questions to generate your OWN questions and activities for the scenarios! You may even use these scenarios for other purposes including engaging students in practicing setting and communicating social boundaries, saying NO, navigating peer pressure, effective communication, wise decision-making, having brave conversations, etc. (It does not just have to be limited to Sex!)

These Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! 

These Task Cards contain the same scenarios in the Scenario Worksheets.

You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

Role-Playing: The scenarios provide students with opportunities to discuss, understand, and role play the variety of effective ways they can set and communicate boundaries, practice saying NO, and having difficult conversations. You can also have each pair read their scenario and then role-play the scenario in front of the class, trying to find a positive resolution to the situation. Students can brainstorm many ways to communicate feelings and boundaries. Each pair also watches another pair’s role-play as commenters: they have the power to freeze the action of the role-play and make comments and suggestions to the role-players to guide them towards a positive resolution. You can use the Task Cards with no questions to generate your OWN questions and activities!

Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.

Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class.
