Looking for great projects for your energy and/or sound unit? Check out this Sound Waves Choice Menu Project where students select from 9 great sound wave topics with different project options! Each sound wave topic includes a brief review of key concepts, helps students decide on their project & provides student pages for support. Allowing student choice adds engagement and ownership as they investigate and create a project on sound waves! You will be amazed by their imagination in their projects.

Objective: Students will demonstrate complex understanding of how sounds impact the world they live in. The choices of topic and project allow for student autonomy. Students use topics within sound waves to create a project. Diverse topics within this project include: echolocation, anthrophony, biophony and geophony; noise pollution, soundscapes, changing sounds and healthy sounds.

Student choices: Diagram, investigation, video, handbook, STEM, photo story, poster, design/engineering and podcast. The different aspects of sound such as how sound changes in media, the properties of sound and effects of different types of sound are all discussed.

Science Concepts: Waves as sound energy, types of sound, properties of sound, categories of sound, sound as communication, scientific models and diagrams.

Connections and Skills: Make connections between prior and new information, scientific models, investigations and communication skills

Lesson and Teacher Tips: This lesson uses sound as a way for students to acquire a deeper understanding of mechanical waves. Students are supported through the project steps with student pages, additional teacher information is provided at the end of the presentation.

This lesson works well in conjunction other lessons in my store on energy and waves.
