This is a simple inquiry-based lab that I love to give students as an intro to Simple Harmonic Motion and springs. Students will figure out for themselves what the period of a spring is dependent upon. They will get the basic idea of springs and oscillations, through creating experiments on their own.

This is an NGSS-aligned lesson. Your students will engage in three-dimensional learning by analyzing and interpreting data, discussing with other students, and forming their own conclusions through trial and error.
