The Digestive System consists of four handy, printable black-and-white Student Worksheets (PLUS Answer Sheets) that will not just save teachers valuable lesson preparation time but also help students to revise and/or improve their understanding of this essential and fundamental topic in biology.

The Digestive System begins with a labelling and colour-coding exercise whereby students are required to identify (i) organs that provide a passage for food to travel through (ii) organs that add certain chemicals to the food and (iii) organs in which the processes of mechanical digestion, chemical digestion and absorption take place. They are then required to answer some revision questions and complete a crossword puzzle on Digestive System Processes.

The Digestive System covers the following:

• why is digestion necessary?

• organs of the digestive system

• difference between chemical and mechanical digestion

• the process of absorption

• special features of the small intestine

• effect of (i) enzymes and (ii) bile on food

• functions of the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, epiglottis and oesophagus

Along with printable worksheets, a digital (PowerPoint) version of this resource is included here at no extra cost, giving teachers a choice as to which they prefer to use – taking into account the different learning styles of their students.
