The Sacco-Vanzetti case of the 1920s was a significant part of a greater historical episode that included the Palmer raids, the Red Scare, and immigration to America in the early 1900s. This text contains five sub-sections that allow the reader to follow the Sacco and Vanzetti case from start to finish. They are titled: “The Crime,” “Time of Fear,” “A Fair Trial,” “Delays and Appeals,” and “A Case That Will Not Die.” This U.S. history passage is a teacher and student-friendly examination of this famous event and was written for use in Grades 7-10. It can be implemented in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, distance and independent learning, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).

1) An informative and engaging 1300-word informational passage called “The Sacco and Vanzetti Case.”

2) A total of 33 questions, including vocabulary, sequencing, and recall. The questions require close reading and re-reading of the passage for key and important details of the case.

3) An additional crossword puzzle for early finishers or to use as another form of assessment.
