This Vowel A Letter Sound Book is a great way to practice hearing and saying the short /a/ sound. The book can be used to consolidate a student’s knowledge of this letter sound, or to introduce them to the sound.

The book contains five fun and practical activities based on five words beginning with the sound /a/. Each activity has a key word as well as detailed instructions for the related activity.

The book is suitable for students in PreSchool, Kindergarten, or First Grade, as well as older students who are not yet reading. It can be used as a send home book for students to read with parents and caregivers. In addition, it can be used as the basis for small group activities within class, or to support individual students who are not yet reading to hear the /a/ sound and recognize the letter ‘a’.

Please note: students are not expected to read the words in these books. It is to be shared by an adult to give practice in hearing and saying the ‘a’ sound at the beginning of words.

  • 5 activities using words that begin with the /a/ sound.

  • A summary page to review the words that begin with /a/.
