Item description

This lesson plan is designed for an inquiry/discussion/discovery classroom but all the resources would be great additions to a traditional setting. Easy to implement in virtual/remote learning, as well. Activities are heavy on the digital side but I have adaptations to paper/group for most activities. The Individual Practice in this lesson plan replaces the traditional homework assignments and busy worksheets and is all digital (for quick and efficient monitoring of student progress).

All resource links (presentations, handouts, activities, etc) are included in the lesson plan.

MY LESSON FYIs:

  • My classroom was not a traditional teaching environment (lecture, assignment, homework, etc). We learned and explored by standard. I did not use textbooks, assign homework and students did not take notes. Class time was all inquiry, discussion, activities, etc within the class as a whole, small groups, partners, or individually. NOTE: Our class was almost 100% paperless so all information (“notes”, activities, etc) was shared on Google Classroom for reference, absent students, etc.

  • I always had some kind of “hook” as they entered the room (song playing, image on the board, something at their table.  Most of my “hooks” were cheesy but the kids seemed to enjoy figuring out how it fit in. The hook would lead into a discussion, activity, etc. It could be digital, out of your seat, etc.

  • We were 1:1 with iPads in my classroom for many years and then 1:1 school wide with Chromebooks, so almost all  of the hard copy “assignments” were eliminated with digital activities/projects. In the Individual Practice section, there are free and paid options (where available).
