  • The sources go with Chapter 1.3 – Japan emerges as a World Power.

This writing workshop can be combined with my AICE History Paper 1 Part A Mini Lesson to create a days long unit on how to address SBQ writing on Paper 1.


Need to differentiate or provide accommodations?  This resource comes with a scaffolded version to guide students through the source analysis.  It also provides students with 1 similarity & 1 difference that students then need to PROVE by finding appropriate quotes & staying focused on answering the prompt.  (There are also less scaffolded worksheets / google documents for your higher performing students). 

Limits or Challenges to copying?  This resource can be left entirely digital or use a combination of digital and paper copies.  Each assignment (scaffolded or not) has separate google documents for print and digital options.  

The best part?  Detailed answer keys for each assignment and version are provided.  There is also a rubric for teacher use to assess students essays.  The rubric is customizable and is from Cambridge (as well as the prompt, sources, & key).  Need to stay digital? There is a google sheets rubric that will upload nicely to your google classroom.  **NOTICE** The digital rubric has self-assessment directions to help students double check their work for key rubric requirements.

This assignment could take you up to 3 days depending on how much support and guidance you give your students. If you combine with Paper 1 Part A Mini Lesson this could easily take you a week. Take away some support/class discussions and keep it to a few days.
