Item description

Would you like students to have choice and express creativity in their writing? Are you reading odes with your class?

This poetry-writing exercise for writing an ode is fun for students. They get to write a tribute to anyone or anything they want!

This lesson includes

⭐ an assignment sheet with a detailed description of the process,

⭐ a writing form sheet to help students follow the format of a sonnet (4 forms),

⭐ a product-specific rubric to assess the student-written poem, and

⭐ examples (professional) to help students get started.

This is a rigorous poetry-writing activity for students and can easily be used multiple times throughout the year.

I have used this in conjunction with teaching “Ode on a Grecian Urn” and “Ode to the West Wind” By Percy Bysshe Shelley in British poetry and as an option for a creative writing class. Writing your own ode is helpful for assisting students as they write their own creations.
