START YOUR JAZZ ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS WITH RHYTHM AND STYLE!


THIS BUNDLE is a SUPPLIMENT to my Blues Warm Up.    Start your rehearsals and introduce the 12 BAR BLUES FORM, JAZZ ARTICULATIONS and STYLE while developing IMPROVISATION SKILLS.


THE RANGE FOR EACH INSTRUMENT, ESPECIALLY BRASS, IS NOT AS HIGH AS THE ORIGINAL BLUES WARM UP, THUS MORE PLAYABLE BY YOUNGER STUDENTS.


My goals remain the same as the original Warm Up:

  1. Teach students the basic 12-bar Blues Form and Progression
  2. Introduce the Bb, Eb and F Blues Scales
  3. Encourage improvisation in a safe and non-threatening environment.

BLUES WARM UP WITH JAZZ RHYTHMS #1 INCLUDES:

  • THE 12 BAR BLUES PROGRESSION WHOLE NOTES ON THE ROOT OF EACH CHORD
  • 8 STANDARD JAZZ RHYTHMS: THREE VARIATIONS

         1. First note of Blues Scale in a standard jazz rhythm                 with articulation (thus the style)

         2. Same rhythm with ensemble voicing

             a. Reinforce the rhythm pattern

             b. Experience the rhythm in a harmonic setting

         3. Rhythm using the first few notes of the Bb, Eb and 

             F Blues Scale

  • OPEN 12 BAR BLUES FOR IMPROVISATION PRACTICE.

The Warm Up concludes with a “Basie-Styled” ending.
