Buddhism is one of the five major faiths in the world today and something all students learning about world cultures should understand. This informational reading comprehension passage introduces the Buddha and the Buddhist philosophy to a middle grade audience (without judging its value compared to other faiths). The life of the Buddha is presented to the students as well as the main beliefs of Buddhism that came from his teachings. This Common Core-aligned text is teacher and student-friendly and written for use in Grades 5-8.
