These five fun Christmas themed puzzles can be used individually or as an Escape the Room activity. These puzzles require students to collaborate and discuss, encouraging good teamwork while practicing English language and problem solving skills. Answer keys for all activities are included.
If playing Escape the Room, organise your students into pairs or threes and then set the scene (page provided to project on the board). Santa is snowed in at the North Pole and can’t get his sleigh out to deliver this year’s presents. The teams must succeed at five tasks in order for the snow to stop. You are the judge of the contest and they must satisfy you in order to be able to move on to the next task.
Christmas Wordmaze – students use the arrows to find a route through the maze revealing a Christmas message.
Christmas Cryptogram – using the cipher provided, students must decode the mystery sentence to find a Christmas message.
Christmas Letterbox – students cross out all the letters that appear more than once. The letters that remain spell out a mystery word.
Christmas Wordchain – students fill in all the words provided between Santa Claus and the North Pole. But the next word must start with the last letter of the word before!
Christmas Wordscramble – students work out the anagrams held up by the Christmas characters on their signs.
