DENTAL HEALTH SORTING CRAFT AND ACTIVITIES

These dental health month activities will help kids learn about dental hygiene and what foods are good or bad for our teeth. These crafts, sorting cards and extension worksheets are a fun and engaging way to teach children about the good and bad foods and how they can affect our teeth and their health.

In this resource you get:

Good/Bad Food sorting cards with chart headers

You can use this as a whole class or small group discussion. Place headers into a chart and get students to discuss each food item and decide whether it is good or bad for the teeth and why.

There are 10 good food items and 10 bad food items.

Alternatively, you can use the sorting mats, laminate them and place the food items into a center or into a tub and get students to sort the items onto the correct mat.

I also like to give out the mats as a worksheet option and get students to draw or write the foods that are good or bad for the teeth or give them the mats and items and use it as a cut, sort and paste exercise.

Build a tooth craft with food sorting items

There are 2 versions of this craft.

Version 1:

FULL PAGE CRAFT

Each student gets 3 pages (happy tooth, sad tooth & food items)

Students cut out their pages of happy and sad teeth. They glue on the eyes and the stars or germs onto the tooth.

Then they cut out all the food images and glue them onto the happy or sad tooth depending on if it’s a good or bad food for the teeth.

Version 2:

HALF PAGE CRAFT

Each student gets 1 tooth page and one half of the food items page

Students cut out their happy and sad teeth. They glue on the eyes and the stars or germs onto the tooth.

Then they cut out all the food images and glue them onto the happy or sad tooth depending on if it’s a good or bad food for the teeth.

All craft pages are available in color and black and white.

Extension worksheets

The next pages contain 3 no prep print and go extension worksheets.

These can be used as standalone worksheets after your lesson on good/bad foods for teeth to check for understanding or you could even send them home as homework!

Alternatively you can cut out the sorting mat and images, laminate them and place velcro dots on to the mat and back of the images so that you have a center you can use over and over again!

Sheet 1: Students cut out the 10 food images and sort them into the correct column. A heading and image has been added to help with comprehension and understanding.

Sheet 2: Students color in the foods that are good or healthy for their teeth.

Sheet 3: Students color in the foods that are bad or unhealthy for their teeth.

DENTAL HEALTH PLAYDOUGH MATS

There are 21 dough mats in color and black and white. 15 of these are half page in size. Students trace the vocabulary word and build the image using colored dough. Simply laminate and cut down the center, place into a tub with some colored dough, a dry erase marker and you have a center filled with fun!

Also included are 6 full page dough building mats in color and black and white that are poster like.

DENTAL TRACING MATS

These dental themed tracing sheets are a hands on and engaging way to build fine motor skills and allows students to strengthen their fingers and develop a good pencil grip while practicing vocabulary and tracing! Students also get to work on their hand and eye coordination.

These can be used as worksheets where students get to trace and color. I also like to use them in protective sheets or laminate them to make them long lasting. Simply add a dry erase marker and you have a center you can use over and over again to refine those fine motor skills!

There are 18 black and white tracing sheets. 16 of these are half page in size. And 2 are full page tracing sheets with dental elements. Students trace the vocabulary word and the image.
