Are you needing an engaging activity for the Doubles strategy for addition? Research supports the importance of playing Doubles math facts games.  This resource includes everything you need for subtraction as well. Doubles math games create engagement and support fact retention with multiple options for differentiation.  To discover how differentiation and games support a growth mindset, check the link at the end of my description. There is also a link at the end for how to teach doubles math facts.


Research has shown that games support skills practice while building classroom community, and classroom community is a significant part of classroom management. The movement in these activities also supports self-regulation, and provides an opportunity for students to practice their Social Emotional Learning skills


Because 3 different student recording sheets have been included, these activities are easy to differentiate


  • The equation bank allows students to complete their calculations and then search for the correct equation.  If you want, have them fold the equation table under prior to getting started so they can’t peak until they have used the number line to solve the problem.

  •  The number bonds allow students to recognize the relationships between numbers in a written form that shows how the numbers are related

  • The student recording sheet with a blank grid can be used for ongoing practice or as a formative assessment to determine if they are ready for summative assessment on these facts.

⭐︎ 22 task cards (half in addition and half in subtraction containing all the equations for Doubles math facts using numbers 0-10.

⭐︎ two  extra task card for students to record their “favourite” Doubles strategy fact.

⭐︎ 3 different students recording sheets:

  • 1 answer sheet includes an “equation bank” to support students who are able to match equations.

  • 1 answer sheet using number bonds, to support understanding and make connections with fact families.

  • 1 answer sheet with empty spaces for students who are able to independently practice their Doubles facts.
