Do you struggle to come up with back to school activities for middle school students? It can be hard to engage this age group with nothing too babyish, but nothing too above them. With these activities, your problem is solved! These activites are specifically designed and tested with middle school students, who agree that they are a fun way to ease back into the school year.

Ten fun activities that take a varying amount of time. Very few materials needed. Interactive and engaging. They will get every kid involved!

Let’s Get Talking- Students will choose a strip of paper that contains a conversation prompt. For one minute, that student must discuss that prompt without stopping or interruption from classmates.

Snowball Fight– This one is a middle school favorite! On a sheet of paper, each student will anonymously write one fact about themselves. Then, they crumple up the paper and use it as a snowball for the fight! After throwing snowballs for a minute or two, students will pick up a snowball to read out loud and then guess which classmate wrote it. This helps students meet classmates, learn names, and learn about each other.

Skittles Icebreaker– Using Skittles, or any colorful candy, students must answer a question based on the candy color they chose.

Tweet, Tweet!- Using the Twitter format, students will write something about themselves, based on a prompt you give them.

Question of the Day- Start each class with a simple question to help students learn something new about each other.

Two Truths and a Lie- Each student must share three pieces of information about themselves with two being the truth and one being the lie. The rest of the class must figure out which statment is the lie.

Scavenger Hunt- Help your students get to know your classroom and school by putting them through a scavenger hunt.

Getting to Know You- This form will provide you with important information about your students that you will not get from your school’s database.

Team Puzzle Challenge- You want to be the fastest team to put your puzzle together, but only one person can talk, one person can build, and one person can gesture or nod.

Letter Collage- Print out the first letter of each student’s name and have them fill the letter with pictures and words that describe them. Hang these on their lockers or around the classroom.
