Item description
This US History reading and assessment activity helps address several Common Core ELA Standards that are listed below this introduction and is suitable for Grades 5-8. Students will read an engaging and informative 850-word biographical text on great American president Harry S. Truman. The article traces his life chronologically as well as provides a review of the great moments in American history that this ordinary, modest man presided over as the leader of the country from 1945-1953. After the reading are twenty-eight fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions that require application of Common Core Standards to a thorough close reading of the biography. At the end is a discussion question that asks the student to evaluate whether Truman’s achievements while president were “extraordinary.” There is also a crossword puzzle for your early finishers or to use as another form of assessment included with this resource. Answers are provided for all questions.
