Your students will enjoy learning about the history of gingerbread with this set of reading passages, comprehension questions, a “then and now” activity, crossword, and word wall.

The reading passage comes in three versions of varying length. Please see the preview to assess if this is suitable for your students. The shorter versions come with comprehension questions in short answer and multiple-choice options with answers that are easily found in the text. The longer version has critical thinking questions and questions which require evidence from the text when appropriate.

The “then and now” activity looks at how gingerbread was eaten by certain classes of society and people around the world, and how gingerbread ingredients have changed over time.

There is also a crossword which can be used as a whole class activity, station or for early finishers.
