Why Use Interval in Excel

Do you spend too much time tracking behavior data for just
one or two students? Are you looking for a behavior data collection sheet to
track student behaviors that are *too frequent* for a frequency count? Do you
need a way to quantitatively make it clear to your administration that
additional support is needed? Do you need help creating an interval graph for
behavior?

How to Use Interval in Excel

Choose a partial interval behavior data collection sheet
where the day is broken up into either 5-minute or 10-minute segments
throughout the day. Then, simply indicate using a plus sign in the appropriate
box whether the behavior occurred even once during that time period.

At the end of the day, you will determine the percentage of
intervals in which the behavior was observed. You will do this by counting the
total number of intervals in which the behavior occurred even once. Then you
will divide that number by the total number of intervals.

When you add the percentage to the dated daily spreadsheet,
your graph will automatically be created or continued.

Add Phase Lines to Your Graph

To increase the usefulness of your graph, consider using
phase lines. Add a phase line to the graph when changes occur (medication,
class, living situation, etc.). Over time you will be able to use this
information to help determine the potential causes of behavioral difficulties
or potential reasons for behavior improvement.

Graphs with phase lines can be especially helpful when
working with students who have a Behavior Intervention Plan, as they help you
determine the effectiveness of your interventions. You will find instructions
on how to use phase lines included in your purchase.

Note

The graph would work in Excel or Google Sheets, but you
must use Excel if you want to enter phase lines, as Google Sheets does not have
this feature.
