Lesson 26: C/K Rule-K comes before i and e. C comes before the other three…a, o, and u.
Lesson 27: Ending in -ck-When you hear the /k/ sound at the end of a word and the /k/ immediately follows a short vowel sound, it is spelled ck.
Lesson 28: S can say /s/ or /z/-When
the letter ‘s’ is after an unvoiced or quiet consonant, it is
pronounced as a /s/. When the letter ‘s’ is after a vowel, another ‘s’,
or a voiced consonant, it is pronounced as a /z/ sound.
Lesson 29: qu says /kw/-In English words, q is never seen without u: qu. When you hear the sound /kw/ the spelling is always qu.
Lesson 30: Double Ending Consonants-This
spelling rule, sometimes called the floss rule, states we double the
last consonant if the following three things are true:
It is a one-syllable word, the word has only one vowel, or the word ends in f, l, s, and z (not as common as the first three). /f/, /l/ /s/, /z/
Lesson 31: Ending letters E and O-E and O usually say their long sounds at the end of the syllable. /ē/ /ō/
Lesson 32: Silent ‘E’-The vowel says its long sound because of the E. /ā/ as in cāke
Lesson 33: Silent ‘E’-The vowel says its long sound because of the E. /ī/ as in līke
Lesson 34: Silent ‘E’-The vowel says its long sound because of the E. /ō/ as in nōte
Lesson 35: Silent ‘E’-The vowel says its long sound because of the E. /ū/ as in mūte
Lesson 36: OW-The spelling ow can represent two sounds: /ow/ as in cow and /ō/ as in show
Lesson 37: Double EE-When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.
Lesson 38: Double OO-Double oo has three pronunciations. /oo/ as in book /oo/ as in hoop /oo/ as in floor
