Write the Room is the perfect way to get your students excited to learn and practice their long vowel sounds. This activity is perfect for first grade.

How to Use for Write the Room:
Print cards on paper or cardstock and laminate for durability. Tape the cards around the room. Print out one of the recording sheets for each student. Give children a clipboard or any hard surface (folder, notebook, etc.). Children take their recording sheet and move around the room to find the cards. Once a student finds a card, they should write the word or vowel spelling (depending on their recording sheet) in the corresponding box. Students continue this way until they find all 20 cards.


Other Uses:
These cards can be used in a phonics center. Cards are laid out on the table or in a pile and children can work together to complete their recording sheet. These cards can also be used alone as flash cards for English Language Learners.
